China opposes Israeli settlement plan

I was alerted to this by way of Malcolm Moore, and I share the same sentiment: what happened to China’s stalwart policy of non-interference in other countries’ domestic affairs?

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang has openly opposed Israel’s controversial plan to build more home in East Jerusalem settlements. He stated yesterday,

China urges the Israeli side to immediately stop building the Jewish settlements and make real efforts to revive the talks.

Hypocrisy, perhaps, given China’s defensive response of “don’t interfere” whenever the international community criticises its domestic decisions (Akmal Shaikh’s execution is just one example). Of course, however, this may just be China’s assertion of being a peace-loving nation talking.
